When I came across this website, I was immediately appreciative of the young, hip look it had and the general idea of an online travel agency made just for students.
Then I really began exploring, and I suddenly realized that I had just struck student travel gold.
STA Travel, besides providing cheap hotels, flights and trips for students, actually offers scholarships to university students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to travel abroad. The company even offers summer travel internships and special promotional items like discount cards, according to the website.
I could go on and on about how awesome I think this site is, and how I think any student who is even mildly considering traveling abroad would be crazy not to check it out, but I’m not. Instead, I’m going to discuss the one aspect of STA Travel that got me so excited, I forgot I was writing a blog and started planning a trip for myself!
At the top of the STA Travel homepage, there is a “Rail” tab. Here is where we students can plan the trip of a lifetime without going into debt for the rest of our lives. The EuroRail pass, Eurostar, Britrail, Japanrail and more! Buy one pass and travel an entire country or continent! Yes, an entire continent!
When my dad was our age, he bought a rail pass that took him and a friend all over Europe. Germany, England, France, Switzerland… I have been fantasizing about that trip my whole life, and I bet it sounds just as amazing to anyone reading this blog as well. Think of it as the ultimate post-graduation getaway.
With the EuroRail pass, you get to choose how many nights, how many countries and which countries to visit. The average price is about $500; airfare and hotel are not included. But if you think about all of the separate vacations you’d be packing into one, it is an incredible deal.

Happy travels, Gators!
It’s the commercial jingle that never gets old. Hotwire, another online travel agency, may not be the most fancy or up-to-date website upon first look, but it carries some serious deals for the student traveling on a budget.
Searching for a regular flight and hotel package on Hotwire works the same way as on most other websites like it, but it’s the special Deals tab that hold all the gold.
Updated daily, the Deals section on Hotwire doesn’t simply show you featured packages, as do most other online travel agency sites. Grouped in sections like Shop by DESTINATION, Shop by THEME, Hotels and Flights, Hotwire gives you more choices in searching for deals, according to the website.
If you’ve already found plane tickets somewhere else and are looking for a cheap hotel, Hotwire Deals will give you a quick view of any extra-special deals at your destination. If you’ve already chosen a destination, but haven’t gotten any farther, a great first step would be to search the Shop by DESTINATION option on Hotwire and see what deals they have in that area.
Also under the Deals tab are the “five money-saving tools” available on Hotwire. These tools help you know when to plan your trip, give you trip deals within 250 miles from home, tell you when prices drop and even show you where money lasts the longest! These five tools are definitely useful for any student looking to for a getaway, but not quite sure when or where to start.
According to the website, Hotwire is a “leading discount travel agency that offers ridiculously low prices.” In business since 2000, the company has been building special relationships with other major travel providers to guarantee easy access and low prices.
